If there is an abnormality in the components that constitute the blood, this abnormality will affect all body, and the eye and especially the retina will be affected. There may be a complaint of decreased vision, or sometimes there may be no symptoms. Patients can refer to the ophthalmology clinic in the early stage or in the later stage of the disease. These hyperviscosity syndromes include anemia, polycythemia, lymphoma, leukemias, dysproteinemias, and bleeding-coagulation disorders.
