“…In addition to these two factors, the social-cognitive model of health anxiety (Warwick and Salkovskis 1990) proposes that health anxiety depends on the degree to which people perceive that they have coping resources (e.g. not only individual coping styles but also medical and informal support) to help them to influence the course of a condition.…”

“…As a first step in establishing DW as a construct, we propose a heuristically useful definition of DW and examine some aspects of the philosophical and cultural background of DW. Inspired by prominent social-cognitive models of health behaviour (Health Belief Model; Rosenstock 1974) and health anxiety (Warwick and Salkovskis 1990), we then examine factors that may contribute to the relatively high prevalence of DW on the population level and outline possible adaptive as well as maladaptive consequences that may result from DW. This examination leads to suggestions for future research and some final conclusions.…”

“…vezet (1. ábra). A viselkedés-változás rövid távon csökkenteni képes ugyan a szorongást, ám hosszabb távon megerôsíti a betegséggel kapcsolatos téves hiedelmeket, így végsô soron azok fennmaradását szolgálja (Abramowitz, Deacon, & Valentiner, 2007;Warwick & Salkovskis, 1990;Wheaton, Berman, Franklin, & Abramowitz, 2010). Jól megerôsíti ezt a modellt az az empirikus eredmény is, miszerint a fenyegetésészlelés és a hipochondriás jellegû aggodal maskodás közötti kapcsolatot a szomatoszenzoros amplifikáció (vagyis a fokozott introspekció és az észlelt tünetekre adott szorongásos válasz) mediálja (Ferguson és mtsai, 2000).…”

“…According to the cognitive-behavioural model (CBT; Warwick & Salkovskis, 1990), an episode of health anxiety can occur when dysfunctional health related beliefs (e.g. "dizziness is a sign of brain cancer") are activated by internal (i.e.…”

“…Furthermore, seeking to "diagnose" one's symptoms online may increase the likelihood of noticing and misinterpreting benign stimuli as evidence for disease; triggering anxiety and illness preoccupation (Singh & Brown, 2015;Warwick & Salkovskis, 1990). Though health related Internet usage (in non-health anxious samples) has been studied by researchers in the past (e.g.…”
