Hypoglycemic Effect of Scarlet Spiral Flag (Costus woodsonii) to Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Mice: An In Vivo Study

Abstract:
Objective: Diabetes Mellitus is a leading illness to the society and despite of a lot of researches, not a single cure has been discovered. Most of the time, people focused on fighting diabetes and medicinal plants were utilized. “…woodsonii leaves has been reported to exhibit antidiabetic effect in Alloxan-induced diabetic mice, indicating its potent hypoglycemic effect (Magtulis, Itable, & Man, 2019). All these studies indicated the presence of bioactive compounds in Costus plant that might possess therapeutic intervention.…”

“…The methanolic leave extract demonstrated antimicrobial property against Staphylococcus aureus strains (Tan et al., 2020) but weak antimicrobial activity was reported from ethanolic extract in different bacteria strains (Sikarwar et al., 2019). Interestingly, the ethanolic extract of C. woodsonii leaves has been reported to exhibit antidiabetic effect in Alloxan‐induced diabetic mice, indicating its potent hypoglycemic effect (Magtulis, Itable, & Man, 2019). All these studies indicated the presence of bioactive compounds in Costus plant that might possess therapeutic intervention.…”
