“…Bariatric surgery has been extensively described to ameliorate sex hormone and SHBG levels in morbidly obese patients (9,14,15,16,17,18,19), with an effect that may exceed what is predictable on the basis of weight loss (17). In this study, we demonstrate that the increase in androgens (cFT and TT) occurs only in hypogonadal patients (TT!8 nmol/l).…”

“…Regarding this, there is substantial evidence on the improvement of endocrine abnormalities like hypogonadic state in obese men and type 2 diabetes mellitus reversal (5,6,7,32). The somatotropic axis is also affected by severe obesity, and reduced basal and stimulated GH secretion and IGF1 concentrations have been described in obese subjects (15,16,17,18,22,23).…”

“…(21) The present study also showed a significant increase in serum level of SHBG which is agree with Pellitero S and coworkers. (20) Who demonstrated thatafter bariatric surgery, a significant increase of SHBG levels is observed, which has been attributed to the dramatic fall in insulin and leptin serum levels due to the weight loss effect.…”
