“…Unlike hemodialysis, few PD patients could suffer from hyperkalemia 1,3 . In our cohort, about 98 (16.3%) patients had ever suffered from hyperkalemia during the whole follow‐up period, which was marginally higher than the study by Phakdeekitcharoen et al, 29 but lower than Goncalves et al 1 Interestingly, about 53 (8.8%) patients had hyperkalemia before dialysis, only 52 (8.6%) patients had ever suffered from hyperkalemia after PD. When analysed at each follow‐up point, the incidence decreased to 0.7%‐3.2%.…”

“…It is well known that hypokalemia plays a very important role in ESRD patients, 1,3,27 while the duration is still not fully recognised. After calculating the LK/SLK duration for every patient, we found that longer duration of hypokalemia did correlate with higher incidence of peritonitis with an increase of 1.2% and 4.6% for every one more month of LK and SLK duration.…”

“…It is important to note that hypokalemia is not uncommon in those on PD [ 70 , 71 , 72 ]. An observational cohort study of >100,000 dialysis patients (including >10,000 on PD) found a 4.7-fold increased risk in hypokalemia for those on PD compared to those on HD [ 72 ].…”
