Hypoxia-induced up-regulation of miR-27a promotes paclitaxel resistance in ovarian cancer

Abstract: Correspondence: Youguo Chen (youguo chen@163.com)Ovarian cancer (OC) is a malignant tumor with high mortality in women. Although cancer patients initially respond to paclitaxel chemotherapy following surgery, most patients will relapse after 12-24 months and gradually die from chemotherapy resistance. In OC, cancer cells become resistant to paclitaxel chemotherapy under hypoxic environment. The miR-27a has been identified as an oncogenic molecular in ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, liver cancer etc. In additi… Show more

“…Several studies have confirmed that cancer cells are able to reduce their sensitivity into PTX chemotherapy using oncogene factors (Feng et al, 2020; Gu, Li, Liu, Lu, & Zhu, 2020). CT can be considered as a chemosensitizer.…”

“…During hypoxia, the level of HIF1 protein increases, and the HIF‐mediated pathway affects metabolic adaptation through mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling, erythropoiesis, angiogenesis, cell growth, vascular tone, and differentiation. Hypoxia is generally considered as a factor that promotes the tumor development, such as hypoxia‐induced tumor chemotherapy resistance [ 81,82 ] and epithelial‐mesenchymal transformation. [ 83–85 ] Hypoxia is also a factor that must be considered in PDT, because oxygen is the third necessary factor in addition to photosensitizers and NIR light.…”

“…Moreover, miR-27a-3p is increased by the hypoxic condition and advances resistance to paclitaxel by targeting apoptotic protease-activating Factor 1 (APAF1), a mediator of cytochrome c-dependent caspase activations, in ovarian cancer cells [ 297 ] ( Figure 5 and Table 6 ).…”
