Adelomelon beckii, The Giant Predator Snail: Introduction

Abstract

Adelomelon beckiiis a large volutid of the southwestern Atlantic ocean that lives in sandy bottoms. It is a dioecious species with a semiannual reproductive cycle.A. beckiican reach up to 29 years of age being one of the most long‐lived gastropods studied to date. This species is harvested as part of the bycatch by fishing trawlers and the current exploitation is far beyond the optimum rate.
