Key indicators: single-crystal X-ray study; T = 100 K; mean (C-C) = 0.005 Å; R factor = 0.045; wR factor = 0.128; data-to-parameter ratio = 18.6.The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Cu(NCS) 2 -(C 11 H 17 N 3 )], consists of two crystallographically independent molecules. In each molecule, the Cu II ion is five-coordinated in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry wherein the basal plane is defined by the N,N 0 ,N"-tridentate Schiff base and one N-bound thiocyanate ligand. The second N-donor thiocyanate group, located at the apical site, completes the coordination environment. In the crystal, intermolecular C-HÁ Á ÁS and C-HÁ Á ÁN hydrogen bonds link adjacent molecules into infinite layers parallel to the ac plane. Intramolecular C-HÁ Á ÁN interactions are also observed.
