CodY , ComA , DegU and Spo0A controlling lipopeptides biosynthesis in Bacillus amyloliquefaciens fmbJ

Abstract: Aim: In the study, we investigated the regulatory effects of these genes (codY, comA, degU and spo0A) on the biosynthesis of three lipopeptides (bacillomycin D, fengycin and surfactin) in Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. Methods and Results: The codY, comA, degU and spo0A genes in B. amyloliquefaciens fmbJ were knocked out. The results showed that the productions of bacillomycin D were significantly reduced compared with that of fmbJ. Their deletion induced great changes in the levels of transcripts specifying meta… Show more

“…These multifunctional enzymes catalyze ten amino acids into a cyclic decapeptide; then fatty acyl chain is attached to the peptide. Numerous genes, including codY , comA , degU and spo0A are also involved in regulating the biosynthesis of fengycin [ 14 ]. In previous works, B .amyloliquefaciens fmb-60 is able to enhance the yield of fengycin and upregulate the gene expression of fen in a modified Landy medium supplemented with fructose [ 15 ], but the regulatory mechanism of fructose on fengycin biosynthesis has not been elucidated yet.…”

“…Through transcriptome and proteome analysis, we previously explored the mechanism of the positive effects of fructose on fengycin biosynthesis ( Lu et al, 2021 ; Lu et al, 2022 ). Sun et al (2021) demonstrated that the biosynthesis of fengycin in B. amyloliquefaciens fmbJ was positively regulated by the genes codY , comA , and spo0A . The production of fengycin was enhanced by lecithin supplementation in the medium and increased the antagonism effect of B. amyloliquefaciens PPL against Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) ( Kang, Park & Jung, 2021 ).…”

“…In addition, superordinated stimuli such as quorum sensing and nutrient availability influence lipopeptide biosynthesis. Specifically, several global regulators including Spo0A, AbrB, CodY, and DegU are involved in the control of NRPS expression (Nakano et al, 1992 ; Serror & Sonenshein, 1996 ; Sun et al, 2021 ; Vahidinasab et al, 2020 ).…”
