Davallia bilabiata Inhibits TNF-α-Induced Adhesion Molecules and Chemokines by Suppressing IKK/NF-kappa B Pathway in Vascular Endothelial Cells

Abstract: Davallia bilabiata (D. bilabiata) is also called GuSuiBu in Taiwan and is used as a substitute for Drynaria fortunei J. Sm. It is often used for trauma and bone repair. The inhibitory effect of D. bilabiata on inflammatory activity has not been reported. In the present study, we aimed to study the mechanism of anti-inflammation of D. bilabiata on the adhesion of leukocytes to vascular endothelial cells. The results showed that D. bilabiata, at concentrations without cytotoxic effect, inhibited the adhesion of … Show more

“…The regulatory mechanisms associated with CX3CL1 may also involve NF-κB. Yang et al (23) suggested that TNF-α promotes the adhesion of monocyte THP-1 to human umbilical vein endothelial cells via the regulation of adhesion molecules by the NF-κB signaling pathway, including the expression of chemokine CX3CL1/monocyte chemotactic protein-1 of ICAM/vascular cell adhesion molecule/S-select in. Cimato et al (24) found that inflammatory cytokines, rather than cholesterol, regulated the expression of CX3CL1 in atherosclerosis.…”

“…The CHCl 3 extract contains naringin, hesperidin, caffeic acid, and procyanidin, but flavonoids was detected only in the n-BuOH extract for presence of organic acid (21,22,25,28,43). Some of the polyphenols isolated from plants exhibit anti-carious effects such as growth inhibition and inhibition of glucosyltransferases against mutans streptococci (44)(45)(46).…”

“…Drynaria fortunei (D. fortunei; Gol-Se-Bo in Korean and Gu-Sui-Bu in Chinese), a traditional Korean medicine, has been known to be effective in treating inflammation, hyperlipidemia, arteriosclerosis, rheumatism, gynecological diseases, osteoporosis, and bone resorption (21)(22)(23)(24)(25). It is also used for treatment and prevention of orthopedic diseases, and is known to promote bone healing (22,26).…”
