Se presenta el estudio de la trayectoria de vuelo de un cohete de tres etapas lanzado desde territorio colombiano con el prop6sito de posicionar un pequeiio sat6lite en 6rbita ba.ja terrestre. Para. ello se consideraron las fuerza.s que afectan el movimiento del cohete tales como la fuerza de empuje, la de la gravedad a.sf como las que surgen cua.ndo el objeto se desplaza a trav~s de la atm6sfera y, con valores especfficos de rendimiento de cohetes que se pueden deriverar de la producci6n actual de la industria na.cional, se estableci6 la ma.sa y el ta.maii.o de cada una. de las tres eta.pas que conforma.n el cohete a. trav~s de un proceso de optimiza.ci6n. Se integraron las ecua.ciones diferenciales que describen el movimiento del cohete por medio de un c6digo computa.cional disefiado por los autores lo que permite determinar el estado dinlimico de la carga. util (y de las etapas una. vez se haya.n desprendido) en cualquier instante de tiempo. La integra.ci6n se extendi6 ha.sta alcanzar el momenta de la entrada. a 6rbita (jnyecci6n) lo que permite establecer los elementos orbitales del sattHite.Palabras clave. AbstractWe present a study of the flight path trajectory of a three stage rocket launched from colombian territory with the purpose of placing a small satellite in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Various forces that affect the motion of the rocket were considered such as thrust, gravity an those that arise from the movement through the atmosphere. Taking into account specific values related with the performance of rockets that could be derived from the output of the national industry, we calculated the mass and size of each one of the three stages by means of an optimization process. The differential equations were integrated using a Fortran code written by the authors which permits to calculate the dynamic state of the payload (and stages when discarged) at the desired time. The integration was extended until orbit insertion which permits to know the orbital elements of the satellite.

“…In Spain the "INTA" Company, within the AQUARIUS air-launch project, has asked for solid rocket engines with very light structure of Spanish technology and the Eurofighter aircraft as the air launch platform [2]. An air launch system, first sought in early '50s through the US Pilot project that ended in failure [3], is now renewed and became operational after four decades with the Pegasus three-stage solid rocket launcher, a private system from Orbital [4], with 38 successful missions since 1993 [5]. The Boeing Small Launch Vehicle, or SLV, is an air-launched three-stageto-orbit launch vehicle concept aimed to launch small payloads of up to 45 kg into low-Earth orbit [6].…”

Since the earliest days of astronautics, more than a century ago, low cost space launchers persevered to be a long desire for the space flight thinkers. Once space flight became a daily business along the late `50-s, first by consuming large financial resources, the interest for cheap space launchers became even more laud. Today’s growing interest in small satellites have bolstered a large series of space technology companies including Virgin Galactic Corp., Garvey Spacecraft Corp., Quantum Research International, Ventions LLC, Sierra Nevada Corp., Generation Orbit Launch Services and even the giant Boeing to work on the development of various types of such vehicles, some of them of actually small size. They have announced recent progresses in their efforts to develop and test small-satellite launchers and rocket engines. Romanian space launcher effort includes the NERVA project, with the ORVEAL compound engine for the upper stage, securing the orbital injection, project developed by the team of professors and researchers from ADDA Ltd, Bucharest. This project is based on a series of innovative concepts, including the optimal ascent program first proposed by the ADDA team by means of the new discontinuous variational optimization, which is here described in detail.

As a part of the ORVEAL project, a real scale laboratory model of the inertial platform for ADDASAT is developed by the joint ADDA and UPB teams, ensuring the capability of a three-axis attitude control demonstration in the ground laboratory that simulates weightlessness by low friction bearings. The study is part of the larger ADDA-UPB program for developing the low cost NERVA orbital system for applications in enhanced environmental policies and land resources surveillance. The ORVEAL research is granted by Romanian UEFISCDI financing authority.
