“…In an unpublished (Sean Bithell, personal communication) inoculated glasshouse experiment for the testing of phytophthora isolates on the parental chickpea genotypes of the two RIL mapping populations, the isolate 1129-1 showed a pathogen–host interaction profile (in terms of plant mortality) similar to that of a mix of 10 P. medicaginis isolates used in field disease experiments and trials within the breeding program. For this reason, the isolate 1129-1 (DAR 66075) collected from Yetman, New South Wales, Australia [19], which has been reported to infect chickpea and Hedysarum spp., was used in this study. Initial pilot-scale testing confirmed the compatible interactions of the chickpea genotypes Rupali, Genesis 114 and breeding line 04067-81-2-1-1 with the P. medicaginis isolate 1129-1.…”
