Helicobacter pyloriin gastric corpus of patients 20 years after partial gastric resection

Abstract: The long-term prevalence of H pylori gastritis in the gastric corpus of patients who underwent partial gastric resection due to peptic ulcer disease is comparable to the general population. The expression of H pylori gastritis in the gastric remnant does not resemble the gastric cancer phenotype.

“…26,[34][35][36] Patients in group 2 had undergone resection for advanced cancer; therefore, it is possible that, at surgery, the mucosa adjacent to the tumor had already become inhospitable to HP. In addition, although some patients in both groups may have undergone operation for an HPnegative condition such as duodenal ulcer caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs 37 or gastric cancer developed without the promoter effect of HP infection, 38 this could not be ascertained in our study, which did not investigate preoperative HP status.…”

“…Does Helicobacter pylori remain for years in the gastric remnant following gastrectomy for ulcer? A German study adequately answers this question (29). Endoscopy, biopsy, and Helicobacter pylori tests were performed for 57 patients at a mean of 20 years after gastrectomy for peptic ulcer.…”
