In situ synthesis of polyimide-based solid lubricating films on the surface of aluminium alloy with improved tribological performance

Abstract: Polyimide-based solid lubricating films were prepared by simple and efficient spin coating proceeding. Several composite lubricating films were obtained by changing the composition and contents of inorganic solid lubricants in organic binder. The structure, physical phase, and performance of the synthesised lubricating films were characterised by using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, fourier transform infrared spectrometry, thermo gravimetric analyzer, and nano-indentation methods. And the fri… Show more

“…22,23 When adding a small amount of whiskers, the interchain movement of PAI macromolecules was more restricted, and mechanical damage such as crack and fracture was restrained in the composite under the impact, shear, tensile, and other automated actions. 24 Meanwhile, the whiskers slowed down the transfer rate of the matrix to friction pair and the generation of the self-lubricating film. In addition, some of the whiskers participates in the friction behavior instead of the matrix, so the friction coefficient increases and the wear rate decreases.…”

“…The wear of the bearing is reduced and the service life is prolonged after the application of polymer coating. Zhang et al [13] prepared a polyimide (PI) coating on the surface of LY-12 aluminum alloy which was filled with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and graphite. The minimum CoF decreased to 0.141 under the dry sliding wear with a load of 120 N and a sliding speed of 200 r/min.…”
