In Vitro Anti-tumoral and Anti-bacterial Activity of an Octamolybdate Cluster-Based Hybrid Solid Incorporated with a Copper Picolinate Complex

Abstract: Inorganic drugs, especially polyoxometalate-based hybrids, are expected to be developed as promising future metallodrugs. Herein, an organic–inorganic hybrid solid based on pyridine-2-carboxylic acid or picolinic acid (pic), [(Cu(pic)2)2(Mo8O26)]·8H2O (1), was synthesized. A single-crystal structure of a solid possesses a discrete β-type octamolybdate cluster that supramolecularly aggregates with a {Cu2(pic)4}4– complex and eight lattice water molecules. The study indicates that the solid is stable in aqueous… Show more

“…In vitro anticancer potencies of the isolated Schiff base (NaH 2 PH) ligand and Co (II), Fe (III), Hg (II), and Pd (II) complexes were evaluated by MTT assay against (HePG-2) liver and (MCF-7) breast cancer cell lines. [22,23] Briefly, 100-μl cell suspension containing 2.5 Â 10 3 cells/well was seeded in 96-well culture plate. The (HePG-2) and (MCF-7) cells were incubated at 37 C for 24 h in 5% CO 2 conditions for settle down and adherence.…”

“…1. 6,38,39,41,42,[44][45][46] The elemental questions regarding the mechanism behind POM-mediated antiproliferative activity are still up for debate. However, it is well accepted that POMs can show cancer cell penetration as their location has been experimentally conrmed within cytoplasmic space.…”

“…11,51 So in some of the reports DNA interaction with POM was elucidated to be the mechanism of anticancer activity. 6,11,48,52,53 Few more mechanisms of anti-tumor activity were found to be inhibition of angiogenesis and interaction of polyoxometalate with proteins. 4,6…”

“…The precursor octamolybdate-based POM chosen for this study was earlier synthesized in our lab. 36 The catalyst was prepared by annealing the precursor [(Cu(pic) 2 ) 2 (Mo 8 O 26 )]•8H 2 O (POM) at 500 °C for 2 h in Ar gas atmosphere (Scheme 1). The resultant nanosheet-like catalyst [Cu 0.1 -{MoO 2 } 0.9 ] (PS-55) was cooled to room temperature in the Ar flow.…”
