Kordiimonadaceae

Abstract

Kor.di.i.mo.na.da.ce'ae. N.L. fem. n. Kordiimonas type genus of the family; suff. ‐ aceae ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Kordiimonadaceae the family of Kordiimonas . Proteobacteria / Alphaproteobacteria / Kordiimonadales / Kordiimonadaceae Cells are rods which occur singly or in chains. Gram‐stain‐negative. Most of them are motile by means of a polar flagellum or lateral flagella. Endospores are not observed. Aerobic or facultatively anaerobic. Weakly mesophilic with optimal growth usually occurring between 20 and 37°C. Chemoorganoheterotrophic. The major respiratory quinone is ubiquinone‐10 (Q‐10). The pattern of polar lipids typically consists of phosphatidylethanolamine and unidentified glycolipids, aminolipids, and lipids. The major fatty acids are iso‐C 17:1 ω 9 c and summed feature 3 (C 16:1 ω 7 c and/or iso‐C 15:0 2‐OH). The family forms a monophyletic cluster in neighbor‐joining phylogenetic analyses of the 16S rRNA. It currently accommodates two genera, Kordiimonas and Eilatimonas . Members of this family were isolated from marine environments, including seawater, marine sediments, and marine fauna. DNA G + C content (mol%) : 50.3–60.3 (genome, LC and T m ). Type genus : Kordiimonas Kwon et al. 2005 VP .
