Lactobacillus johnsonii alleviates colitis by TLR1/2-STAT3 mediated CD206 + macrophages IL-10 activation

Abstract: Imbalance of gut microbiota homeostasis is related to the occurrence of ulcerative colitis (UC), and probiotics are thought to modulate immune microenvironment and repair barrier function. Here, in order to reveal the interaction between UC and gut microbiota, we screened a new probiotic strain by 16S rRNA sequencing from Dextran Sulfate Sodium (DSS)-induced colitis mice, and explored the mechanism and clinical relevance. Lactobacillus johnsonii ( L. johnsonii ), a… Show more

“…Notably, L. reuteri and L. johnsonii have been widely reported in various studies for their probiotic effects. 28–30 These findings demonstrate that recombinant BSH derived from YB81 can ameliorate dysbiosis induced by HCD, which may be linked to its CHOL-lowering capabilities.…”

“…17 As a probiotic, Lactobacillus johnsonii is well-known for its ability to enhance the host's immune response and has significantly alleviated colitis in the mouse model. 18 L. johnsonii supplementation reduces colitis by modulating inflammation and endoplasmic reticulum stress. 18,19 However, different strains of the same genus of bacteria have functional specificity and may exert different effects on disease.…”

Previously, different strains of B. longum and Akkermansia muciniphila were shown to inhibit colitis in mice in a strain-specific manner. , In addition, two Lactobacillus murinus strains showed different anti-inflammatory properties in a Caco-2 cell model .…”
