N‐Oligo(3‐hydroxybutyrate)‐functionalized polypyrroles: towards bio‐erodible conducting copolymers

Abstract: New copolymer materials have been prepared by chemical grafting of 3-hydroxybutyric acid oligomers (OHB) onto polypyrrole (PPy) derivatives. The influence of different grafting density and molecular weight of OHB brushes on physicochemical properties of prepared copolymers was investigated. Polypyrrole substrates were prepared by FeCl 3 driven oxidative homopolymerization of N-(2-carboxyethyl)pyrrole or its copolymerization with pyrrole. The grafting method employed involved controlled anionic polymerization o… Show more

“…Moreover the increasing number of functional β‐lactones presented in the literature gives hope for the development of synthetic functional PHAs as alternatives to microbial‐originated PHAs . Novel functionalized PHAs and the introduction of methods like ‘click’ chemistry in PHA functionalization also open the possibility for the preparation of nanoparticles without any surfactants or polymeric additives as well as attachment of targeting or imaging molecules on the multifunctional particle surfaces. These developments in combination with the generally excellent biocompatibility of PHA materials are expected to further increase the interest in PHA‐based drug delivery systems.…”

“…The discussed materials describe BBL oligomers grafted to the polymer matrix consisting of conductive (co)polypyrrole. The influence of grafting density and molar mass of oligo(BBL) brushes on the physicochemical properties, e.g., electrical conductivity and degradation of prepared copolymers, was also investigated [42,43].…”

“…The same strategy has also been applied for the synthesis and characterization of a novel polypyrrole material grafted with biodegradable OHB pendants. The obtained OHB functionalized pyrroles were found to be promising candidates for the preparation of biodegradable conductive polymers [39,40].…”
