PALD encoding a lipid droplet‐associated protein is critical for the accumulation of lipid droplets and pollen longevity in Arabidopsis

Abstract: Pollen longevity is critical for plant pollination and hybrid seed production, but few studies have focused on pollen longevity. In this study, we identified an Arabidopsis thaliana gene, Protein associated with lipid droplets (PALD), which is strongly expressed in pollen and critical for the regulation of pollen longevity.PALD was expressed specifically in mature pollen grains and the pollen tube, and its expression was upregulated under dry conditions. PALD encoded a lipid droplet (LD)-associated protein and … Show more

“…We therefore obtained an enriched LD fraction from leaves of tgd1-1 sdp1-4 mutant Arabidopsis plants and investigated the proteome using quantitative label-free proteomics. First, to evaluate the success of LD enrichment, we combined the riBAQ values of all known detected LD proteins (Gidda et al, 2016; Brocard et al, 2017; Pyc et al, 2017; Kretzschmar et al, 2018; Fernández-Santos et al, 2020; Kretzschmar et al, 2020; Doner et al, 2021; Ge et al, 2022; Li et al, 2022) revealing a strong enrichment of this combined abundance by a factor of 65 to 775 in the LD fractions of the different treatment conditions (Suppl. Figure S10).…”

“…While the number of known LD-associated plant protein families has steadily increased in recent years (Fernández-Santos et al, 2020; Kretzschmar et al, 2020; Doner et al, 2021; Ge et al, 2022; Krawczyk et al, 2022b; Li et al, 2022), the number is still only roughly two dozen (Guzha et al, 2023). These studies were often followed up by the functional characterizations of these proteins, greatly increasing our understanding of LDs (Shimada et al, 2014a; Gidda et al, 2016; Deruyffelaere et al, 2018; Kretzschmar et al, 2018; Pyc et al, 2021; Krawczyk et al, 2022b).…”
