“…Exotoxin A-immunotoxins, such as that produced by P. aeruginosa, kill cancer cells by binding specifically to overexpressed cell surface receptors, which carries them into the cell, where they catalyze the ADP-ribosylation of the eukaryotic elongation factor 2 (eEF-2) in host cells, ultimately affecting protein synthesis and inducing programmed cell death. Clinical trials with different exotoxin A-immunotoxins have demonstrated that such bacterial products present better results in eliminating cells derived from hematological malignancies over those originated from solid tumors (Wolf & Elsasser-Beile, 2009;Bernardes et al, 2010).
