“…Given the many applications of circular RNA (circRNA) in translational research (Li, 2023;Sridhara & Sanyal, 2011;Zhou et al, 2020), one can envision developing novel ways to circularize RNA targets of choice. Apart from these applications, RNase P has been employed as a control biomarker for the detection of cell-free DNA towards the diagnosis of breast cancer (Murillo Carrasco et al, 2021) and as an internal control to normalize viral load during corona virus disease (COVID-19) diagnosis as a means to assess the extraction efficiency and specimen quality of RNA extracted from patient nasopharyngeal swab samples (Maidana-Kulesza et al, 2022;Sridhara et al, 2021). Interestingly, the RNA levels of RPP30 shared between RNase P and RNase MRP were shown to strongly correlate with positive diagnosis in SARS-CoV-2 detection tests, suggesting that it could be used as an internal reference to specifically identify false negative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) results in COVID-19 diagnosis (Zhang et al, 2020a(Zhang et al, , 2020b.…”

“…By binding targets speci cally on the mRNAs at the 3'UTR region, the Pumilio-binding elements (PBEs) control cell differentiation and fate determination [15][16][17]. Recent genetic research on the genes that encode the RNA-binding proteins known as Pumilio-1 (Pum1) and Pumilio-2 (Pum2), members of the mammalian PUF family, have shown the functions of post-transcriptionally controlling growth, reproduction, and development of the eukaryotic brain in addition to malignant tumors progression [18][19][20]. An earlier study revealed that PUM1 is overexpressed in colon cancer cells that have developed Cetuximab resistance and is associated with TAM [21][22].…”
