Stipa tenacessima L cationized fibers as adsorbent of anionic dyes

Abstract: The extraction of Stipa tenacessima L Alfa fibers was performed using alkaline procedure to remove noncellulosic substances such as pectin, lignin, and hemicellulose. The degree of polymerization of extracted and purified Alfa fibers was determined using viscosimetric method and extracted fibers were used as a cationic ionexchange material by treating alkali-cellulose of Alfa with EpoxyPropylTriMethylAmmonium Chloride (EPTMAC). Evidence of grafting was monitored using IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetry analy… Show more

“…Cellulose derivatives have been particularly investigated during the treatment of effluents. [33][34][35] In a previous work, Baouab et al, 7 have chemically modified the cotton fiber by ethylene diamine and then the ethylene diamine-grafted groups immobilizes Cu(II) ions was tested for the adsorption of Calma and AB25 as ligands in the metal-coordinating process. The objectives of this article concern the description, for the first time, of the feasibility and the characterization of a ternary complex formation between the two model ligands (AB25 and Calma), Cu (II) ions, and crosslinked chitosan microspheres using a batch process under several experimental conditions.…”

“…Alfa fibers have a heterogeneous structure consisting mainly of cellulose (43.9−50%), lignin (17.71−24%), hemicellulose (22.15− 28%), and 5% wax . Consequently, these fibers are highly anisotropic as are most natural fibers.…”
