Abstract:From the reading of its explicit we learn that the text found in London, British Library, Sloane 5, ff. 13 -57 (S) is a Middle English (ME) translation by a certain John Lelamour of a Latin treatise about the properties of plants originally written by a certain Macer the philizofur. The colophon goes on to state that Lelamour was a schoolmaster from Hereford, and that he undertook the task of translating the original text into English in 1373; the text concludes with a conventional modesty topos.
