trans-Bis[O-2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl (4-methoxyphenyl)dithiophosphonato-κ2S,S′]nickel(II)

Abstract: In the the title compound, [Ni(C(21)H(28)O(2)PS(2))(2)], the Ni atom resides on an inversion centre and is coordinated in a square-planar array by four S atoms, with Ni[bond]S and P[bond]S bond lengths of 2.2336 (12)/2.2351 (13) and 1.9910 (16)/2.0010 (17) A, respectively. The two O-2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl and two 4-methoxyphenyl moieties adopt trans configurations about the central Ni atom.

“…A similiar method was employed by Özcan et al in the formation of bis[O-2,4di-tert-butylphenyl(4-methoxyphenyl)dithiophosphoato] nickel(II), an analogous compound containing a bulky sterically protecting substituent. 12 In both cases X-ray studies unambiguously identified the compounds though there is very little spectroscopic information available.…”

“…The nickel atom is located on an inversion centre and is coordinated in a nearly perfect square-planar arrangement by four sulphur atoms of two terminal bidentate (PhCH 2 CH 2 O) 2 PS 2 -ligands. The Ni-S bond lengths are 2.2228(13) and 2.2202(11) Å , which are significantly shorter than those observed in Ni[S 2 P(OC 6 H 3 (Bu 2 t -2,4))(C 6 H 4 OMe-4)] 2 (2.2351(13) and 2.2336(12) Å ) [22], but close to those in Ni[S 2 P(OMe) 2 ] 2 (2.225(2) and 2.219(2) Å ) [4] and Ni[S 2 P(OPr i ) 2 ] 2 (2.227(1) and 2.216(1) Å ) [8]. The S(1)-Ni-S(2) chelate angle in the complex is 88.38(4)°, which is slightly smaller than the angle for S(1)-Ni-S(2), 89.12 (2) [4,8,14].…”
