Iatroplacebogenesis: a useful therapeutic tool?

Abstract: The placebo effect is ubiquitous, being present in every patient–treatment situation. In the era of prescientific medicine, the reputation of healers was built largely upon the power of this effect. In modern medicine the effect continues, and may be harnessed to enhance sound scientific treatment and thus facilitate recovery.
