People who are deaf or hard of hearing face social exclusion and a lack of employment and academic opportunities. The objective of the article is to explore the needs for inclusion and training in labor skills in the deaf community of Medellin-Colombia. The methodology used is qualitative with an exploratory-descriptive scope; In-depth semi-structured interviews were applied. Academic and personal skills, use of Information and Communication Technologies and those proposed by the Ministry of Education of Colombia were inquired about. The results show the multiple competencies that deaf people possess leadership, teamwork, use of technological applications, but they require strengthening emotional intelligence, the ability to take risks, and communication skills. Also, it demands adaptation of technological resources, Recognition by society of the potential of deaf people and generation of better opportunities for training and insertion in the labor market.
