Identificação de episódios de ondas de calor e de frio atmosféricas na região central do litoral catarinense

Abstract

Extreme events such as heat waves (HWs) or cold spells (CSs) can cause damage to human health, to productive activities such as agriculture and livestock, as well as causing various environmental impacts. Therefore, the aim of this study is to identify the variability of the occurrence, duration and intensity mean of atmospheric HWS and CSs in the central part of the Santa Catarina coast from 1982 to 2017. For the detection of HWs and CSs in the atmosphere, the anomalies of the atmospheric temperature data were calculated in relation to the climatological normal, by calculating the 90th and 10th percentiles for HWs and CSs, respectively. The minimum persistence of five days of anomalous temperature values in relation to the daily climatological average was considered. In this work, reanalysis data from the Era-Interim project were used, and the calculations were computed by the ‘‘RmarineHeatWaves’’ package. Based on the calculations and analyzes done, the occurrence of this extreme events in the respective region was checked, with different periods of duration. A greater number of cases of HWs have been observed since the 2000s, corroborating with previous studies. The longest-lasting HW (CS) was seen in April 2016 (July 2000).
