Abstract: The renal tubular organic cation transporter 2 (OCT2) and multidrug and toxin extrusion protein 1 (MATE1) mediate the vectorial elimination of many drugs and toxins from the kidney, and endogenous biomarkers for vectorial transport (OCT2‐MATE1) would allow more accurate drug dosing and help to characterize drug–drug interactions and toxicity.
