Identification and Characterization of Csa-miR395s Reveal Their Involvements in Fruit Expansion and Abiotic Stresses in Cucumber

Abstract: The miR395 plays an indispensable role in biochemical processes by regulating their target genes. However, little is known about the roles of miR395 in cucumber fruit expansion and response to abiotic stresses. Here, 4 Csa-miR395s and 8 corresponding target genes were identified in the cucumber genome. Csa-miR395s were all located on the same chromosome (Chr 5). Csa-miR395a/b/c and Csa-miR395d were distributed in different branches without a closer genetic relationship. Massive cis-acting elements, including l… Show more

“…), and functional element analysis of the miR395 promoter revealed the presence of many light reaction‐related components (Li et al 2018). In addition, light stress response elements were found in the promoter of miR395 in cucumber (Lu et al 2022). Asc deficiency greatly inhibited the increase of miR395 expression under sulphur starvation independently of light conditions; therefore, Asc is probably a positive regulator of this process.…”

“…Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is one of the main vegetable crops in China, with the cultivation area reaching 1.27 million hm 2 in 2020 (Lu L. et al, 2022). However, due to its weak tolerance and sensitivity to unsuitable environments, it often suffers from abiotic or biotic stresses, such as low temperature, high temperature, salt stress, downy 10.3389/fpls.2022.1012439 mildew (Pseudoperonospora cubensis), and powdery mildew (Podosphaera xanthii) during the cultivation, which have become the limiting factors for the production of cucumber under protected cultivation (Das et al, 2022).…”
