Identification and Expression Analysis of Chemosensory Genes in the Antennal Transcriptome of Chrysanthemum Aphid Macrosiphoniella sanborni

Abstract: As one of the most destructive oligophagous pests, the chrysanthemum aphid (Macrosiphoniella sanborni) has seriously restricted the sustainable development of the chrysanthemum industry. Olfaction plays a critical role in the environmental perception of aphids, but very little is currently known about the chemosensory mechanism of M. sanborni. In this study, four MsanOBPs, four MsanCSPs, eight MsanORs, two MsanIRs and one MsanSNMP were identified among the 28,323 unigenes derived from the antennal transcriptom… Show more

“…In addition, aphids provoke the development of sooty fungi [5]. All these factors deplete the plant, reduce the efficiency of photosynthesis, and disrupt metabolism, affecting the profitability of flower production [6] and subsequently leading to economic loss [7].…”

“…In the present study, transcriptome sequencing provided a dataset of 11 LeryOBPs and four LeryCSPs . This comparatively smaller number of LeryOBP / LeryCSP genes can be compared to those of other reported aphid species, such as 13 OBPs and 5 CSPs in S. avenae (Xue et al, 2016), 4 OBPs and 4 CSPs in M. sanborni (Zhong et al, 2022), as well as 9 OBPs and 9 CSPs in M. persicae (Wang et al, 2019). Interestingly, the olfactory function of OBPs/CSPs seems to be conserved within aphids, reflected by the identified one‐to‐one orthologous relationship among the studied species.…”
