Identification and Management of Aggressive Meningiomas

Abstract: Meningiomas are common primary central nervous system tumors derived from the meninges, with management most frequently entailing serial monitoring or a combination of surgery and/or radiation therapy. Although often considered benign lesions, meningiomas can not only be surgically inaccessible but also exhibit aggressive growth and recurrence. In such cases, adjuvant radiation and systemic therapy may be required for tumor control. In this review, we briefly describe the current WHO grading scale for meningio… Show more

“…The other classification relates mainly to pathological features, including malignant meningioma ( 30 ), atypical meningioma ( 31 ), anaplastic meningioma ( 32 ), and asymptomatic meningioma ( 33 ), etc. This classification is primarily associated with treatment modalities and prognosis, such as atypical and anaplastic meningiomas, which tend to have a poor prognosis and require postoperative adjuvant therapy ( 34 , 35 ).…”

“…Molecular mechanisms, such as cellular differentiation, cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and apoptosis, are targeted by chemotherapeutic agents (70). Unfortunately, chemotherapy treatment for recurrent meningiomas is constrained by a lack of tumor models and pre-clinical research, as well as a lack of knowledge regarding the molecular pathogenesis of meningiomas (71).…”

“…The soil and land resources of the southern parts of the Rostov region are negatively affected by the use of pesticides, fertilizers, and chemical and biological agents in agriculture. Taking into account the epidemiological picture of the prevalence of meningitis in the Rostov region, it can be assumed that this is due to the ecological heterogeneity of the habitat since it is 3-5 times higher in urban and rural areas of the south-west of the Rostov region, Three to six times more in areas near water bodies due to pollution of water bodies, as well as in their territorial-industrial complex than in the rest of the territory [10][11][12]. Current methods for improving the diagnosis of neoplasms, taking into account their pathogenetic factors, make it possible to identify patients with a meningioma based on pre-existing clinical symptoms of tumors when the size of the tumor itself is large enough.…”
