Identification and Quantification of Amino Acids From Medicinally Important Plants by Using High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography

Abstract: & The present paper deals with simultaneous identification and quantitative determination of five amino acids, viz., L-lysine, L-threonine, L-valine, L-isoleucine, and L-tryptophan using highperformance thin-layer chromatographic (HPTLC) technique in five different medicinal plants, viz., Amoora rohitaka (Roxb.), Adiantum capillus-veneris, Sphaeranthus hirtus Willd., Swertia chirata (Wall.), and Malaxis acuminata. The separation was performed on TLC aluminium plates precoated with silica gel 60 F 254 . Good se… Show more

[28][29] In folk medicine, the pseudobulbs are utilized in bronchitis and as a tonic. Similarly, pseudobulbs of M. muscifera are used for curing fever, as well as haemostatic, antidiarrhoeal, styptic, antidysenteric, and vitiated conditions of the pitta and vata, and are also recommended in the treatment of joint arthritis.…”

“…Various sugar molecules and their glycosides like galactose (14), glucose (15), D-glucose (16), D (+) sucrose (17), D-mannose (18), fructose (19), β-maltose (20), α-D glucopyranose (21), levoglucosan (22), methyl β-D-glucofuranoide (23), β-galactopyranose (24), gluconolactone (25), α-D-(+) -mannopyranose (26) and rhamnose (27) were obtained from M. acuminata. Also, the structural investigation of M. acuminata revealed various monosaccharides like galactose (14), glucose (15), mannose (18), arabinose (28), βmaltose (20) etc. [41] These compounds possess significant antiinflammatory, antioxidant, and immune-modulating properties.…”
