Identification of a Novel Defined Immune-Autophagy-Related Gene Signature Associated With Clinical and Prognostic Features of Kidney Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma

Abstract: Background: As a common cancer of the urinary system in adults, renal clear cell carcinoma is metastatic in 30% of patients, and 1–2 years after diagnosis, 60% of patients die. At present, the rapid development of tumor immunology and autophagy had brought new directions to the treatment of renal cancer. Therefore, it was extremely urgent to find potential targets and prognostic biomarkers for immunotherapy combined with autophagy. Methods: Through GSE168845, immune-related genes, autophagy-related genes, and i… Show more

“…The risk score distribution, survival status, and expression profile heatmaps showed a trend similar to that of the training set (Figures 6C-E). To illustrate the superiority of the NRG signature, we compared the other two immune-autophagy-related gene signature (Zhang et al, 2021) and pyroptosis-related gene signature (Sun et al, 2021) recently published. After obtaining the genes constituting the prognosis signature from literature, the Kaplan-Meier curves and ROC curves were constructed by TCGA-KIRC cohort (Supplementary Figure S1).…”

“…The studies involving human participants were reviewed and approved by Ethics Committee and Institutional Review Board for Clinical Research of Zhongda Hospital (ZDKYSB077) ( 43 , 44 , 45 , 46 ). This study is a retrospective study that only collected clinical data from patients, and the ethical committee approved the exemption of informed consent.…”

“…These autophagosomes sequester cytoplasmic components for subsequent degradation upon fusion with lysosomes. Autophagy functions as a protective mechanism for breaking down surplus or impaired cellular components, although excessive autophagic activity may lead to cell death ( 11 ). Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of programmed cell death, has been associated with various pathologies related to tissue injury, contributing to cellular depletion through ferroptotic cell death.…”
