-The transmission line outages occurs due to the direct lightning strike fault. It is good to study on the identification of direct lightning strike fault for the efficient and relevant repair, which is meaning full to overhead transmission line protection. In this paper, firstly we can focus on the lightning current of phase wires at the observation points of view. Secondly, according to their drawback, another method is introduced. In which, the first method to find the lightning strike fault by using 1.Rogowski coil is introduced. Then 2.Wavelet transform, 3.hilbert transform, 4.Modeling of substation shielding, 5. Travelling wave protection, 6. Using surge arresters, 7.Mahalanobis distance protection method, 8. S-Transform method is explained.

In the modern power system, the fault identification and classification is one of the challenging tasks during high fault impedance due to low change in the magnitude of fault current from steady-state to fault inception. In this paper, a high impedance fault detection technique is proposed based on Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT). The energy for each phase is computed from the intrinsic mode function (IMF) of three-phase voltage/current signals. An average relay energy index (AREI) is proposed to detect the transmission line fault in the large interconnected power system. Furthermore, a fault classification technique is also proposed based on relay energy index (REI) of each phase of the three-phase voltage/current signals. The proposed HHT based fault detection technique is validated on standard WSCC 9 bus and IEEE 14 bus test power systems using PSCAD and MATLAB software. The simulation results reveal that the proposed Hilbert-Huang transform based fault identification and classification technique can be best suitable for protection of transmission lines during high impedance faults in complex and large AC power transmission system.

Accurate acquisition for the transient traveling wave at the fault point on overhead transmission lines (OTLs) provides powerful technical supports on the fault diagnosis and insulation design of OTLs. In the study, a novel inversion method is proposed to obtain the transient traveling wave at the fault point. First, the inversion model is created by using the frequency-domain propagation characteristics and the inversion theory. The optimization object function of the distributed parameters is constructed in combination with the wavelet packet transform. The current traveling wave at the fault point is inverted based on the obtained distribution parameters and the waveform of the detection point. Finally, practical measured data of 500-kV OTLs are analyzed by the proposed method in which different factors are considered.The results indicate that the inversion method aids in obtaining the traveling wave at the fault point with high accuracy. Therefore, the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed inversion method are verified.
