Identification of genes essential for anaerobic growth of Listeria monocytogenes

Abstract: The facultative anaerobic bacterium Listeria monocytogenes encounters microaerophilic or anaerobic conditions in various environments, e.g. in soil, in decaying plant material, in food products and in the host gut. To elucidate the adaptation of Listeria monocytogenes to variations in oxygen tension, global transcription analyses using DNA microarrays were performed. In total, 139 genes were found to be transcribed differently during aerobic and anaerobic growth; 111 genes were downregulated and 28 genes were … Show more

“…A positive family history of migraine (relatives of first or second grade) was found in 65.2%. A positive family history for periodic syndromes and/or migraine had been reported previously ( 42 , 43 , 51 , 52 ). Parents of children with vertigo/dizziness should always be asked about this.…”

“…The construction of the in‐frame deletion mutant L. monocytogenes Δ glnR and the in cis complementation mutant L. monocytogenes Δ glnR‐ comp was performed as described previously (Müller‐Herbst et al ., ). Oligonucleotides and plasmids used in this study are listed in Tables S3 and S4.…”

“…For RNA isolation, cells were grown in a chemically defined minimal medium until an optical density at 600 nm (OD 600 nm ) of 0.80–0.87 and harvested [4200 g , 8 min, room temperature (RT)], and the pellets were shock frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored at −80 °C until further processing. RNA isolation was performed as described (Müller‐Herbst et al ., ).…”

“…Before assembly, adaptor sequences, empty reads and low-quality sequences were removed. Data evaluation was performed according to the description of Müller-Herbst et al [63]. To annotate isotigs and singletons, the non-redundant sequences were searched against the protein databases obtained from NCBI with a search threshold of E -value cut-off 10 −5 [18].…”
