Identification of miRNA signature for predicting the prognostic biomarker of squamous cell lung carcinoma

Abstract: As explorations deepen, the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC), from its emergence to metastasis and prognosis, has elicited extensive concern. LUSC-related miRNA and mRNA samples were acquired from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. The data were initially screened and pretreated, and the R platform and series analytical tools were used to identify the specific and sensitive biomarkers. Seven miRNAs and 15 hub genes were found to be closely related to the overall survival … Show more

“…MiRNAs have been shown to exert complex effects on lung cancer development and progression, including regulation of cancer growth, angiogenesis and metastasis, domination of host immune responses and remodeling of the tumor microenvironment 53 56 . In recent years, miRNAs have been revealed as a valuable diagnostic biomarker of lung cancer and also a key factors for predicting the prognosis of disease 12 , 57 . In our study, we examined the potential for changes in miR-150 expression level in relation to the diagnostic practice.…”

“…When most patients with advanced LUSC have experienced chemotherapy resistance and recurrence; and those same patients have had to endure the toxic side effects of chemotherapy, which considerably reduces the quality of life [ 6 ]. In-depth research on the treatment of LUSC mainly focused on the development of a clinical model of LUSC [ 7 ], the construction of markers for diagnosis and prognosis [ 8 , 9 ], and the optimization of the related diagnosis and treatment scheme [ 10 , 11 ]. Natural products and their derivatives as natural sources of anticancer drugs have great potential in the treatment of many tumors; however, there are still some gaps in the research on natural products in LUSC, and new molecular-targeting drugs may be beneficial in the treatment of LUSC [ 12 , 13 ].…”
