Identification of nine microRNAs as potential biomarkers for lung adenocarcinoma

Abstract: Lung cancer is a leading global cause of cancer‐related death, and lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) accounts for ~ 50% of lung cancer. Here, we screened for novel and specific biomarkers of LUAD by searching for differentially expressed mRNAs (DEmRNAs) and microRNAs (DEmiRNAs) in LUAD patient expression data within The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). The identified optimal diagnostic miRNA biomarkers were used to establish classification models (including support vector machine, decision tree, and random forest) to dist… Show more

“…Previous studies have demonstrated that miRNA profiling can be achieved by mining published gene expression microarray data. 13 Genome-wide miRNA expression profiling has shown that miR-499a-5p is downregulated in lung cancer. 14 However, the roles and mechanisms of miR-499a-5p in NSCLC remain poorly understand.…”

“…MicroRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) are small, endogenous RNAs ~22 nucleotides in length (7). miRNAs serve an important regulatory role in organism development, cell differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis, as well as in pathological and physiological activities, including tumorigenesis (8)(9)(10).…”

“… Zhang et al (2019) showed that LINC02154 was a risk factor for the prognosis of patients with laryngeal cancer. A study revealed that hsa-mir-486-1 may serve as a potential diagnostic biomarker of lung adenocarcinoma ( Ren et al, 2019 ). Hsa-mir-6854 was reported as a potential prognostic miRNA biomarker for colon adenocarcinoma ( Wei et al, 2018 ).…”
