Abstract: BackgroundAlzheimer's disease (AD) and related neurodegenerative diseases are characterized by the accumulation of abnormal protein aggregates. A defining hallmark of AD is the formation of neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) by aggregation of the microtubule‐associated protein tau into pathological oligomers and fibrils.
