Identification of Pre-Diabetic Biomarkers in the Progression of Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a major global health issue. The development of T2DM is gradual and preceded by the pre-diabetes mellitus (pre-DM) stage, which often remains undiagnosed. This study aimed to identify novel pre-DM biomarkers in a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced pre-DM mouse model. Male C57BL/6J mice were fed either a chow diet or HFD for 12 weeks. Serum and liver samples were isolated in a time-dependent manner. Semi-quantitative assessment of secretory cytokines was performed by cytokine array a… Show more

“…The results of this study concur with that suggestion. This phenomenon occurs due to the influence of insulin, which prompts the translocation of GLUT4 vesicles, causing them to merge with the cellular surface membrane, the circulating levels of IRAP are expected to reflect the amount of both IRAP and GLUT4 that undergo translocation to the plasma membrane, thus providing an indication of the degree of insulin sensitivity (29).…”

“…Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a complex metabolic disease that poses a significant health burden. Early detection of the prediabetes stage is crucial to prevent complications from developing ( 45 ). However, studies on prediabetes and related biomarkers are limited.…”

“…To induce pre-DM, several animal models have been established, such as high-fat/high-calorie rodent diets and streptozotocin (STZ)-injected models fed a high-fat diet (HFD) (Islam; Venkatesan., 2016). According to Lee et al ((Lee et al 2022), experimentally induced progressive stages of type 2 diabetes mellitus by HFD are classi ed as 6 weeks (pre-DM), 12 weeks (DM2), and 20 weeks (advanced-stage DM2). The present study utilized an 18-week induction model of HFD, considered an advanced stage of DM2.…”
