“…Because seed germination involves a series of cellular and metabolic events that are difficult to monitor directly (Bewley and Black 1994), defined germination traits can at best only indirectly mark physiological and biochemical progress of the process. The genetic basis of germination was addressed in sunflower, where four QTL affecting germination percentage were mapped to three linkage groups, six QTL affecting the percentage of normal seedlings to four linkage groups, and two QTL affecting germination timing to two linkage groups (Al-Chaarani et al 2005).
