Identification of the bZIP Gene Family and Investigation of Their Response to Drought Stress in Dendrobium catenatum

Abstract: Dendrobium catenatum is a valuable Chinese herbal medicine that naturally grows on cliffs and tree trunks and is often threatened by adverse environmental conditions. The bZIP transcription factor is known to play a critical role in the response of plant to stress. However, the functions of the bZIP gene family in D. catenatum are poorly understood. In this study, 62 bZIP genes were identified from D. catenatum, which encoded proteins with an amino acid number of 130~692, a molecular weight of 15.24 to 74.94 k… Show more

“…During its life cycle, the growth and development of D. catenatum are frequently threatened by environmental conditions, such as temperature and drought stress [37,40]. A lot of stress-related genes or transcription factors were induced to adapt to these environmental stresses [29,33,34,37,40,53]. CHS is a key enzyme in plant secondary metabolic pathways and is associated with many physiological regulations and abiotic stress resistance in plants [54].…”

“…Dendrobium catenatum belongs to the Dendrobium genus of the Orchidaceae family and is increasingly threatened by adverse environmental conditions [29]. Researchers have often focused on the medicinal properties of D. catenatum [30][31][32], but little is known about its stress resistance [33,34]. In this study, the D. catenatum CHS genes were identified, and their full-length genomic sequence was obtained [35].…”

“…Gene model (PF00170 and PF07716) of the bZIP TF family were downloaded from the Pfam database (http://pfam.xfam.org/)., The bZIP TF family of A. membranaceus was predicted using the hidden Markov model software HMMER3v3.0 (http://hmmer.janelia.org/) based on the genomic data of A. membranaceus, and the prediction results were further identi ed using the hidden Markov model tool (https://www.ebi.ac.uk/Tools/hmmer/) and NCBI CDD-Search online tool (https//www.Ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Structure/bwrpsb/bwrpsb.cgi). The physicochemical properties of the bZIP TF family, including protein length, molecular weight, isoelectric point and other indicators, were analyzed using ProtParam (https://web.expasy.org/protparam/) 45,46 .…”

“…Therefore, identifying drought-resistant genes from D. catenatum is crucial for improving drought resistance through molecular breeding techniques. Our research group has previously discovered several drought-related transcription factors in D. catenatum [33][34][35][36][37], which serve as candidate genes for studying drought resistance in D. catenatum. Within plants, the CBL-CIPK signaling pathway has a significant role in responding to abiotic stress.…”
