Abstract:Dilatant fluids exhibit a sudden increase in viscosity when the shear rate increases. This characteristic can be used in the design of bearings that can suppress vibrations in the event of a sudden increase in shear rate, such as in rotating machinery. The bearings for rotating machines are designed based on a model that uses dynamic coefficients of the rotor.
