Identification of Thyroid Carcinoma Related Genes with mRMR and Shortest Path Approaches

Abstract: Thyroid cancer is a malignant neoplasm originated from thyroid cells. It can be classified into papillary carcinomas (PTCs) and anaplastic carcinomas (ATCs). Although ATCs are in an very aggressive status and cause more death than PTCs, their difference is poorly understood at molecular level. In this study, we focus on the transcriptome difference among PTCs, ATCs and normal tissue from a published dataset including 45 normal tissues, 49 PTCs and 11 ATCs, by applying a machine learning method, maximum relevan… Show more

“…RAS protein activator like 2 (RASAL2) functions as a GTPase activating protein (GAP) and was recently reported to be a tumor suppressor, and to mediate the growth and metastasis of various types of cancer (11). RASAL2 expression is suppressed by hypermethylation of its promoter, which leads to Ras signaling, and subsequent tumor growth and metastasis in human breast cancer (12,13).…”

“…Moreover, MLLT1, DLG2, and EFEMP1 were the 3 significant hub proteins in the PPI network, in which DLG2 and EFEMP1 were involved in tumor progression. Disks large homologue 2 (DLG2) has been reported as an important candidate involved in the progression of thyroid cancer [35]. Additionally, one of the isoforms may be a good candidate for molecular differential diagnosis of renal oncocytoma [36].…”
