Identification of Weed-Suppressive Tomato Cultivars for Weed Management

Abstract: Weed-suppressive crop cultivars are a potentially attractive option in weed management strategies (IWM). A greenhouse study was conducted at the R. R. Foil Plant Science Research Center, Starkville, MS, to assess the potential weed-suppressive ability of 17 tomato cultivars against Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri S. Wats), yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus L.), and large crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis L.). The experiment was a completely randomized design, with four replications, and was repeated twice… Show more

“…In addition, the use of cultivars with higher competitive capacity can reduce the Critical Period of Interference Prevention in the crop. Therefore, improving the decision making related to the time of weed control and adopting cultivars with high weed suppression capacity can be an alternative for increasing the prevention and reduce the use and costs with other weed control methods (CASTRO et al, 2019;LINS et al, 2019;MEDEIROS et al, 2021;WERLE et al, 2022).…”
