Yellow-crested cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea occidentalis) (KKJK) is a protected bird species in Indonesia and is included in the critically endangered category based on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Conservation efforts by various parties are needed to support the preservation of this bird. Ex situ conservation is one way to restore the KKJK population through more intensive rearing and mating activities. However, the ex situ conservation of KKJK is still limited, with a low success rate. This study aims to develop an ex situ conservation strategy for KKJK in conservation institutions. The method used in this study was Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The data obtained were analyzed using the SWOT and QSPM methods. The results showed that the most influential internal factor in ex situ preservation of KKJK in conservation institutions is the manager's knowledge of the type, quantity and quality of feed, while the most influential external factor is collaborating with laboratories, veterinary centers and animal clinics. The appropriate management strategy to be applied in the ex-situ preservation of KKJK in conservation institutions is an aggressive growth strategy (Growth-oriented strategy) with a priority strategy of improving the capacity of the animal caretakers.
