Identify the Influence of Risk Attitude, Work Experience, and Safety Training on Hazard Recognition in Mining

Abstract: Mineworkers face a challenging and dynamic work environment every workday. To maintain a safe workplace, mineworkers must be able to recognize worksite hazards while they perform their jobs. Though hazard recognition is a critical skill, recent research from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) indicates that mineworkers fail to identify a significant number of hazards. To further the understanding of mineworkers' hazard recognition ability and to begin to address hazard recognitio… Show more

“…In addition, the more years of work with a strong participation in risk assessment gives the confidence that their conclusions as shown in this survey are correct, can be relied on and be used in setting the standards in the risk assessment. This study is also consistent with the findings of previous research [26] that work experience is correlated with better hazard identification and recognition because the experience increases over time and workers gain more in-depth knowledge about their jobs and their performance improves.…”

“…It is unclear whether the method is biased or this is the real situation. Within the occupational risk perception of workers, the risk tolerance is higher due to the poor health literacy ( 67 , 68 ). We need to develop a more accurate tool to assess the physical environment and workers' attitudes toward occupational health risks.…”
