Identifying core technologies based on technological cross-impacts: An association rule mining (ARM) and analytic network process (ANP) approach

RESUMOO presente trabalho objetivou analisar a busca por proteção patentária em biodiesel, primeiramente em nível mundial e por seguinte no Brasil, identificando os principais depositantes, como também explorados pedidos de patentes realizados por brasileiros. Utilizou-se para realização da prospecção o sistema de base de dados Questel Orbit, tendo como palavras chaves: Conceitos, Título, Resumo e reivindicações, utilizando-se a palavra biodiesel na plataforma de busca. Foram encontrados 11.905 depósitos de famílias a nível mundial entre1995 e 2015, sendo a grande maioria destes depósitos classificados na Seção C (Química; Metalurgia), tendo a China e Estados Unidos como principais depositantes. O Brasil aparece com 397 depósitos de patentes nativas sobre biodiesel, sendo a Petrobras a principal depositante com 36 publicações e posteriormente a predominância de instituições públicas de ensino superior apostando em tecnologias para produção de biodiesel, composições contendo biodiesel, uso de subprodutos e desenvolvimento de matérias primas para produção de biodiesel.Palavras-Chaves: Biodiesel. TECHNOLOGICAL MAPPING IN BIODIESEL: PATENT APPLICATIONS DEPOSITED IN THE WORLD AND BRAZIL ABSTRACTThe present work aims to analyze the seeking for biodiesel patent protection, first analyzing worldwide requests and after Brazilian requests, identifying the main applicants and also examining patent request by Brazilians applicants. Questel Orbit database was used for the research, using keywords: Concepts, Title, Abstract and claims, using the word biodiesel in the platform of research. There were found 11.905 groups of requests in a worldwide approach, requested between 1995 and 2015, where the big majority of these groups were classified in the Section C (Chemical; Metallurgy), being China and United States the main applicants. Brazil appears with 397 requirements of patents in biodiesel from native people, being the Petrobras the principal applicant with 36 publications, followed by public institutions of higher education which invest in technologies for production of biodiesel, compositions containing biodiesel, uses of by-products and development of supplements for production of biodiesel.

Food-Pharma Convergence in Medical Nutrition– Best of Both Worlds?

At present, industries within the health and life science sector are moving towards one another resulting in new industries such as the medical nutrition industry. Medical nutrition products are specific nutritional compositions for intervention in disease progression and symptom alleviation. Industry convergence, described as the blurring of boundaries between industries, plays a crucial role in the shaping of new markets and industries. Assuming that the medical nutrition industry has emerged from the convergence between the food and pharma industries, it is crucial to research how and which distinct industry domains have contributed to establish this relatively new industry. The first two stages of industry convergence (knowledge diffusion and consolidation) are measured by means of patent analysis. First, the extent of knowledge diffusion within the medical nutrition industry is graphed in a patent citation interrelations network. Subsequently the consolidation based on technological convergence is determined by means of patent co-classification. Furthermore, the medical nutrition core domain and technology interrelations are measured by means of a cross impact analysis. This study proves that the medical nutrition industry is a result of food and pharma convergence. It is therefore crucial for medical nutrition companies to effectively monitor technological developments within as well as across industry boundaries. This study further reveals that although the medical nutrition industry’s core technology domain is food, technological development is mainly driven by pharmaceutical/pharmacological technologies Additionally, the results indicate that the industry has surpassed the knowledge diffusion stage of convergence, and is currently in the consolidation phase of industry convergence. Nevertheless, while the medical nutrition can be classified as an industry in an advanced phase of convergence, one cannot predict that the pharma and food industry segments will completely converge or whether the medical industry will become an individual successful industry.

Different types of data, needs of users and variety application problems are lead to produce a range of methods to discover patterns and dependent relationships. This application follows a set of association rules according to know which one of set of objects affects on a set of other objects. This association rules predict the occurrence of an object based on the occurrence of other objects. The associative algorithms have the challenge of redundant association rules and patterns, but studying various methods of association rules is expressive that the recent researches focused on solving the challenges of the tree and lattice structures and their compounds about association algorithms. In this paper, the associative algorithms and their function are described, and finally the new improved association algorithms and the proposed solutions to solve these challenges are explained.
