Abstract:Long-term steroid therapy and splenectomy ultimately improves idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) in only about 60–80% of all patient treated. Three cases of refractory autoimmune thrombocytopenia are described. Despite the lack of detectable antiplatelet factors, our patients were treated with immunosuppressives. The effect of Azathioprine is reported in relation to similar cases.
