IEEE 1547 and 2030 Standards for Distributed Energy Resources Interconnection and Interoperability with the Electricity Grid

Abstract: These partnerships also include technology development that enables grid modernization and distributed energy resources (DER) advancement, especially renewable energy systems integration with the grid. Through DOE/NREL and industry support of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards development, the IEEE 1547 series of standards has helped shape the way utilities and other businesses have worked together to realize increasing amounts of DER interconnected with the distribution grid. “…The integration of the PV system into the grid adversely influences the stability, power quality, and reliability of the system. Therefore, for reliable and secure power supply, different countries followed some specific standards as presented in Basso . Using the guidelines, different control solutions are presented in the literature with single‐stage and two‐stage inverter operation.…”

“…A standalone microgrid needs precise control of the frequency since most of the loads connected are of induction motor type. [4] suggests and provides the standards for providing ancillary services like frequency regulation and spinning reserve management. Section 3.2 of [5] discusses the frequency tolerance of the grid when the load or power production changes suddenly.…”
