IgA pemphigus

Abstract: Pemphigus is a life-threatening autoimmune blistering disease. Pemphigus is divided into 4 major types; pemphigus vulgaris, pemphigus foliaceus, paraneoplastic pemphigus, and IgA pemphigus. Among them, IgA pemphigus is characterized by tissue-bound and circulating IgA antibodies targeting desmosomal or nondesmosomal cell surface components in the epidermis. Histopathologically, slight epidermal acantholysis and extensive neutrophilic infiltration in either the upper part or all layers of the epidermis were obs… Show more

“…Classically, IgA pemphigus has been divided in several clinicopathological forms, including subcorneal pustular dermatosis-type, intraepidermal neutrophilic dermatosistype, and IgA pemphigus foliaceus. 17,18 Pemphigus vegetans of the IgA variant could be considered another subtype. In our second case, the linear IgG deposition along the basement membrane could point toward additional overlap with other autoimmune diseases.…”

“…Antibodies against plakin family proteins are detected in paraneoplastic pemphigus [13]. Finally, IgA pemphigus is a subtype that is defined by the presence of IgA-class autoantibodies [14]. The autoantigen for one type of IgA pemphigus is desmocollin-1 [14].…”

“…IgA pemphigus is characterized by IgA autoantibodies to keratinocyte cell surfaces and is divided into two subtypes: subcorneal pustular dermatosis (SPD)-type and intraepidermal neutrophilic IgA dermatosis (IEN)-type (1,2). By cDNA transfection method, we previously identified desmocollin 1 as autoantigen in SPD-type (3).…”
